for this reason, i remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, [2 tim 1:6]

“i remind you…. fan into flame.” this is a call, a charge that paul writes to his son in the faith and a call and charge that our heavenly father has given to us too.

this is a calling and charge to remember. to remember and fan into flame the gifts that we have been given in Christ. while each of us have been given different spiritual giftings, we all have been the same gift of salvation through the finished work of Christ on the cross.

take some time, meditate on these verses, and this passage in ephesians 2. then, call your heart to remember, remember the great love with which you are loved and the hope and life that you have in Christ.

“but God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved.   …   for by grace you have been saved through faith. and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,” [ephesians 2:4-5, 8]

remember the mercy of God,

remember his great love,

remember the life he has given you,

remember his grace,

and remember all this is the gift of God to you his son or daughter in Christ.

so, no matter how small that hope is in your heart, be it a smoldering coal or a tiny spark. fan it, tend it, and let the winds of remembrance blow on it until it turns into a raging fire for the glory of your Heavenly Father.
