mlkidz

mlkidz is our ministry to families with children birth through 5th grade. mlkidz is aimed at helping kids learn more about who God is and how He loves and cares for them while having fun. our mission is to partner with parents to train up the next generation of Christ followers.

the gospel project®

we leverage the gospel project® as the backdrop of our weekly mlkidz lessons and activity. the gospel project® immerses kids in the gospel through every story, theological concept, and call to mission from genesis to revelation. ultimately, the gospel message changes everything; heart transformation can only take place when a child experiences the gospel. through the gospel project® for kids, kids and preschoolers will understand the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption.

wellness policy

flu season is upon us and we want to ensure the health of our matthias’ families as much as possible. please do not have your child participate in mlkidz on wednesday if they have had any of the following symptoms or illnesses within the past 24 hours:

  • fever of 100.4 degrees or above
  • vomiting or abdominal pain or diarrhea
  • moderate or severe drainage from the mouth, nose, eyes
  • substantial chest congestion, coughing, or wheezing
  • painful, red throat or headache or stiff neck
  • unusual coloring of the skin or eyes; unexplained rash
  • any symptoms of common contagious illnesses, such as h1n1 virus (swine flu), conjunctivitis (pink eye), strep throat, head lice, rsv virus, whooping cough, viral meningitis or chickenpox.

this list does not cover all instances where it would be best to keep your child home, so please use good judgment in order to prevent the spread of illness. you can also assist us in alerting other families of possible exposure if your child develops any communicable disease after participating in our family ministry. please contact lauren cartmell asap at lauren@matthiaslot.com.

areas to serve

There are various ways you can serve with mlkidz. Here is a list of a few ways:

classroom lead (co-teacher) teacher

commitment: serve for a full month (typically 4 weeks at a time) and then off for a month. 1 month on and 1 month off.

overview: we set up our teachers in two teams (an odd and an even month team), so they serve for a full month (typically 4 weeks at a time) and then are off for a month. ids thrive on consistency. having a dedicated teacher in each class helps meet their needs with a healthy balance of commitment. our odd and even teams serve for six months total, a total of 3 months for each group, and then are given the chance to commit to another six months.

sub teacher

commitment: can vary based on time commitment, but could be very short notice.

overview: sub-teachers function like a lead teach on an as needed basis. they have access to the curriculum so when they are called on they can easily prepare.

host team

commitment: serve for a full month (typically 4 weeks at a time) and then are off for a month. 1 month on,1 month off. once the large group time is over you go to church.

overview: the primary role of the host is to mc the mlkidz large group time, welcome kids into the large group room, setting up the evening, facilitating worship, starting video, and praying. the host also helps with mlkidz check-in and greets new families.

worship team

commitment: ideally they serve for a full month (typically 4 weeks at a time) and then are off for a month. 1 month on and 1 month off. once the large group time is over they can go to church. however this role has more flexibility if needed.

overview: the role of the worship person is to help lead mlkidz worship time with hand motions and singing. this person does not need to be able to play a guitar or an instrument, but we are hoping to build up to that.

coach (training teachers)

commitment: the commitment is various, but includes helping train, equip, and disciple our mlkidz teachers.

overview: this role includes praying for and following up with the mlkidz teacher you are coaching. investing in them to help them better serve as an mlkidz teacher.
