after these things the word of the Lord came to abram in a vision: “fear not, abram, i am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” but abram said, “o Lord God, what will you give me, for i continue childless, and the heir of my house is eliezer of damascus?” and abram said, “behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” and behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “this man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.” and he brought him outside and said, look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” then he said to him, “so shall your offspring be.” and he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. [genesis 15:1-6]

what amazing and rich words from our Lord.

i want to encourage you to just sit in this passage today.

i am going to give you some direction, some questions to ask of the Lord.

but, instead of hearing from another as you sit in the word of the Lord, i want to encourage you to sit with the words of the Lord today and let him speak. trust, that the God of all creation is with you because of Jesus and that he wants you to hear his voice. he wants to engage your heart. he wants you to follow him as he speaks today.

listen and follow him!

a few directions as you sit with the Lord today:

  • what do you see about the person and character of God that causes you to worship?
  • worship him.
  • what do you notice about abram that you identify with, that reminds you of your heart?
  • confess your fear, confess your weakness, confess your sin.
  • what is the Lord asking you to believe deeper about him and what he has done?
  • ask the Lord for more belief in him, in his person, his work.

sit and be still and listen – ask questions – and listen some more.

whatever you do – whatever you hear in your heart – remember the Lord is with you. enjoy his presence! and follow him today!
