let my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your word! let my plea come before you deliver me according to your word. [psalm 119:169-170]

sometimes it is good to take a step back and evaluate how you pray.  do you pray in order to preach or teach the others within earshot?–

”help my kids to do what is right and make good decisions”

or to encourage yourself?

“help me to take better care of myself so I can be healthy for my family”

or to enrich yourself?

“help me to get this job, it would be so great for my finances.”

or to heal yourself?“help the doctors know what to do to help me to get better quickly”

please, please hear me when i say God cares about your entire life–big things, little things, he knows, he sees.

but when was the last time that you cried out to the Lord for him to put on display his power, glory, his majesty, his holiness, his kingdom and all of his great purposes? when have you prayed just to worship his great Name above all names?  when is the last time you plead your case before the Lord, knowing that the only defense that you have in the throne room to answer for your your infinite cosmic treason against a Holy God is “all I have is Christ!”

cry, plead, praise the God of the universe. Christ has made a way for us!
