i rise before dawn and cry for help; i hope in your words. [psalm 119:147]
have you ever been awakened in the middle of the night, just to toss and turn, your mind racing, evading sleep? i had a night like that last night.
it is a blessing. all seems hopeless, but here is the perfect opportunity, when the kids, the spouse, the roomates are asleep to spend time pleading in the presence of God! God is calling you cry out to him and hope in him.
the voice in this verse is not passive though, waiting for sleep to flee before he comes to God–instead the writer intentionally, actively rises, so that he may cry for help for the day, knowing that challenges will come,
if you did not rise this morning with a desire to cry for help from God, how is your day going so far? challenge yourself in 2022 to rise before dawn, making the priority of your day time in the presence of God. ask the Lord to reorient you, and to help you rest in Christ, and to operate out of the Spirit. hope in his words!
for God alone, o my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
he only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken. [psalm 62:5-6]
