then i shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. [psalm 119:6]
there is something mysterious and miraculous about our eyes, and how we use them.
what we look at physically and spiritually, we become.
“the eye is the lamp of the body. so, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. if then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! [matthew 6:22]
if we do not know God, it is because we are blind.
they know not, nor do they discern, for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand. [isaiah 44:18]
and even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God [2 corinthians 4:3-4]
Jesus said, “for judgment i came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” some of the pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “are we also blind?” [john 9:39-40]
and in our spiritual blindness–we are ashamed.
but in being given sight–we see, we behold!
open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. [psalm 119:18
Jesus said to him, “you have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” he said, “Lord, i believe,” and he worshiped him [john 9:37-38]
the next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! [john 1:29]
when we feel the weight of our sin and in shame we often turn inward. we think we need to do better, perform better, obey better.
how shall we not be put to shame? to look to Christ!
“look to Me, and be saved,
all you ends of the earth!
for i am God, and there is no other. [isaiah 45:22 NKJV]
look at him! fix your eyes on him! you shall not be put to shame! where can we see him? in his precious commandments, the word, the bible! enter into his presence by abiding in the word!
o soul, are you weary and troubled?
no light in the darkness you see?
there’s light for a look at the Savior,
and life more abundant and free!
turn your eyes upon Jesus,
look full in his wonderful face,
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
in the light of his glory and grace.
[lemmel, turn your eyes upon jesus 1,refrain]
