your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. [psalm 119:105]
there are so many passages in scripture about light and darkness, walking in the way of the Lord, being on the right path or road. they’re used in many contexts, but they all point to the same truth.
this is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. [1 john 1:5-6]
if we have an intimate relationship with God, we have his light, we love his light, we walk in his light. we know his way, we love his way, and we walk in his way. [heb 10:16] this doesn’t mean we don’t sin. [1 john 2:1, rom 7:15] but it means we hate our sin the way God hates our sin, that the ways of our flesh and the world no longer satisfy us, and that God’s glory satisfies us the same way it satisfies him! and so we seek to know him more, to follow him more closely, to find more and more satisfaction in his glory and goodness.
the psalmist knows that the key to walking in God’s way and in God’s light is through God’s Word. we’ve seen over and over, how he desperately loves God’s Word, because through it, he knows and feels God himself. he eats, drinks, and breathes, the nearness of God in his Word!
Father, please stir this same passion in me! give me diligence to open your Word, give me understanding through the Spirit, that i might see you clearly and love you with all my heart. please God, show me your glory!
