your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. [psalm 119:98]
while the world chases after youth and beauty, those of us who are in Christ have a different command–to seek wisdom.
the beginning of wisdom is this: get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. [proverbs 4:7]
how much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. [proverbs 16:16]
how do we become wiser than our enemies in the world?
we stand in awe of a holy God!
the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. [proverbs 9:10]
we look to the commandments of God, we look to the word of Christ!
“everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. and everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” [matthew 7:24-27]
let us ever have his commands with us, let us write them on our hearts, let us heed them, let us not only be hearers, but wise doers of the word!
