but when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. and because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “abba! father!” [galatians 4:4-6]

God had a purpose for the law: it began the process of revealing his lost glory to a people hopelessly separated from him, a people who had no idea of his glory. it was God the Father’s forerunner for God the Son. (2 cor 4:7-8)

“when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”

but the law was temporary. it had a beginning and an end. and, the end came when God the Father sent his son, Jesus, to redeem our lives to him. made right with God by Jesus’ work, he purified our hearts so God the Spirit could come live in us and restore his lost glory to us.

and because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “abba! father!”

and now, we live in the presence of God.

God lives in you.

the one who flung the stars into the sky, the one who fashioned the mountains, and the one who formed the depth of the seas, all with a word – lives in you!

sometimes, we forget that God is with us. sometimes, we find it hard to believe God is in us. sometimes, God seems so far away.

he’s not. if you are his son or daughter, made right with God by the work of Christ – he is with you, in you. there are times, he does feel far away. there are times, it seems as if he is not there. but, God is with us and has given us the Spirit for times like these…

God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “abba! father!”

today, if God feels far away, allow the Spirit to keep his promise from this verse. he will cry out to God for you, “abba!” (daddy, father) today, your prayer only needs to be, “Spirit, pray for me. Spirit, call out to the Father for me.” he will. even more, he already is.

likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. and he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. [romans 8:26-27]
