for all the promises of God find their yes in him. that is why it is through him that we utter our amen to God for his glory. [2 corinthians 1:20]
Jesus. Jesus is the yes to the promises. all the promises of God find their yes in Jesus. Jesus is the one who was looked to in the old testament. Jesus is the one we look back to. the person of Jesus Christ, his life, his death, his resurrection are the reason we have a yes to all the promises. they are the reason we are gifted with every spiritual blessing [eph 1:3]. Jesus is the reason we have hope for redemption. Jesus is the reason we have breath in our soul. Jesus, only Jesus is the one that gives us all these full assurances.
that is why it is through him that we utter our – amen to God for his glory.
utter. that is not a word we use often anymore, but it is to say something out loud. amen is the congregational response of the people to give a strong affirmation of agreement. especially in the old testament:
“blessed be his glorious name forever; and may the whole earth be filled with his glory. amen, and amen.” [psalm 72:19]
“blessed be the Lord, the God of israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. and let all the people say, ‘amen.’ praise the Lord!” [psalm 106:48]
“ezra opened the book [the word of God] in the sight of all the people for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. then ezra blessed the Lord the great God. and all the people answered, “amen, amen!” while lifting up their hands; then they bowed low and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.” [nehemiah 8:5-6]
“i think he would say, God is calling us not to be isolated, silent, encapsulated individuals in worship. privately coming, privately hearing, privately going, with no one able to tell what we love and cherish and long for, because we haven’t expressed resonance — an echo, an empathy — with anything.” -John Piper
believer has the yes in Jesus ever stirred you to want to respond out loud? speak out loud to your father. he gave you a voice. use it to his glory!
