for it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. [romans 2:13]
it is often good for our heart to sit in a small portion of God’s word for a couple of days.
we are going to do that together with this one verse. for the next two days, we are going to give the Lord time and space to speak into our hearts using this passage.
today…
let’s sit in this truth –
for it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God,
let’s begin by asking the Lord to reveal himself in this verse. let’s look at the Lord first.
here’s the first question for our heart – what is God revealing about himself in giving us this truth?
sit for a moment – pray – and ask the Lord this question.
be still for just a moment more and ask this again – and look at the words as you do.
what did the Spirit say?
here are a couple of things he spoke to me…
“i am RIGHTEOUS”
“i am HOLY”
“i am JUDGE”
here’s the second question – what is God warning you about here in this truth?
again, sit for a moment – pray – and ask the Lord this question – and look at the words as you do.
what did the Spirit say?
here is one thing he said to me-
while i need to hear and read and sit in the word – just being exposed to the word is not God’s ultimate desire for my heart and life. he desires that i abide, live, and walk in the joy and obedience of his word.
my encouragement for you today is this.
spend the whole day – YES – the whole day asking the Lord these two question about this verse.
you will not have every minute of this day to ask these questions – but if you ask him to put this on your mind all day – you will find more minutes than you think to ask and listen. (in the car, in the shower, at a meal, on a walk, changing a diaper, at a study break, fixing food to eat, etc.)
LORD –
all day, remind us you are with us. all day, speak with us. hear our questions. speak to our hearts. fill us with your presence, your truth, your word – and help us to abide, live, and walk in what you tell us.
in Jesus name,
amen!
