let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together [psalm 98:7-8]

the earth cannot keep from proclaiming the glory of the Creator.  this is why it was created. this is its purpose. its mission. it longs to see God be magnified.

the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. there is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. [psalm 19:1-4]

God created this world, and everything in it belongs to him. he is the Maker. he is the Master.

the earth is the Lord‘s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. [psalm 24:1-2]

and so when the Lord commands, the earth responds in complete and immediate obedience.

do you not fear me? declares the Lord. do you not tremble before me? i placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it. [jeremiah 5:22]

so when there is a call for the seas to roar, for the rivers to clap their hands, and for the hills to sing for joy together, proclaiming the glory of the Almighty, it is to their utmost delight to comply!

and we are included in this call to worship. as those who dwell in the world, we should jump with joy at every chance to proclaim the glory of our God. as his children, we should delight over every chance to proclaim his excellencies. we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. we can enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise. [psalm 100]

so today, together with all of creation, let’s bless the name of the Lord with a joyful noise!
