king nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: peace be multiplied to you! it has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me. — [daniel 4:1-2]

signs and wonders

nebuchadnezzar was not necessarily in pursuit of God.

but God was certainly in pursuit of him.

speaking to him through dreams, surrounding him with Godly men, and allowing him to witness miracles, God was making Himself fully evident to nebuchadnezzar.

as we reach chapter 4, nebuchadnezzar can’t keep it to himself any longer. It ‘seemed good’ that he share all that God had done for him with anyone who would listen.

and when the king speaks, people listen.

the parallel is obvious: God is actively pursuing each of us just as fervently as he did nebuchadnezzar. we also are surrounded with signs and wonders of who He is, what He is doing and what He has done.

God is so immensely good to us that we also should have a deep desire to share the good news of who He is. He has made each of us a new creation. He has not simply overlooked all our sin, but taken all of it upon Himself in our place. He has preserved His word for thousands of years so that we may engage with Him through it. He has given us the promise of eternal life enjoying Him forever. He gives us a sunrise every morning, and he actively pursues us so that we may experience a life beyond anything this world could ever offer us.
