consider how i love your precepts! give me life according to your steadfast love. [psalm 119:159]

i love so many things of this world. what if i loved God’s glory more than anything else?

it would change the way i am a husband to my wife.

it would change the way i parent my children.

it would change the way i see the lost.

it would change the way i speak to my neighbors.

it would change the way i see the church.

it would change the way i work.

it would change everything.

why do we seek life and joy in what cannot satisfy? the world cannot promise life, it can only promise change, decay, entropy, death. through Jesus we are given the free offering of eternal life–not according to our doings and deeds, but according to God’s steadfast love, his ḥeseḏ–“lovingkindness”–towards us!

Father!

grow my love for your precepts, your word, your Son! your Glory! i cling to the dust of this earth, loosen my grip on it and let me cling to Christ! i find the pleasures that the world can offer so sweet, let them become bitter in my mouth as i taste the sweetness of Christ! let me seek your Glory!

amen!
