then king nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and paid homage to daniel, and commanded that an offering and incense be offered up to him. the king answered and said to daniel, “truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.” [daniel 2:46-47]

God of gods and Lord of kings

daniel had interpreted the dream, doing something that no one else who stood before the king had been able to do. the king’s’ magicians and sorcerers did get one thing correct here – that no one anywhere could do what the king was asking. they proclaimed to the king that “there is not a man on earth who can meet the king’s demand” (v. 10), and “no one can show it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh” (v.11).

who can reasonably tell someone what it is they had a dream about? it is possible that any of the magicians or even daniel could have made up an interpretation, but there is no human being who can discern the thoughts a person has in their head, especially a dream that happened when they are sleeping!

psalm 94:11 tells us, “the LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath”.

we cannot tell another person what they have dreamed about, not even daniel. yet through the power of God, daniel was able to do this, and nebuchadnezzar understood this ability came from God and not daniel.

our God truly is the “God of gods and Lord of kings”. he know every thought of every ruler, and knows our thoughts as well. There is nothing hidden from him, and nothing that he can’t reveal to those whom he chooses to reveal.

how could daniel accomplish something so amazing?

prayer was not new to him. before this moment, daniel was clearly accustomed to hearing from God and studying his word. when we do the same, we can know that in the right moment, God will reveal his wisdom to us in just the right situation in just t. we can only pray to have the faith and boldness of daniel, actively growing a deep and meaningful relationship with the God loves who all about us and loves us.
