i, I am the Lord,
and besides me there is no savior.
i declared and saved and proclaimed,
when there was no strange god among you;
and you are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and i am God.
also henceforth i am he;
there is none who can deliver from my hand;
i work, and who can turn it back?”
[isaiah 43:11-13]
God alone is our Savior
in his book ‘mere christianity’ C.S. Lewis writes that “all that we call human history… is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”
This truth reflects the idea that we can try to gain the whole world to make ourselves happy, but in the end learn that we remain unhappy, and our soul has been lost (matthew 16:26).
there is nothing in this world that can save us. nothing to give us unchanging peace, eternal joy, hope regardless of circumstance, and life that will extend far beyond this brief mortal existence.
God and God alone can provide these for us, and He does it freely through His great salvation and His gifting of the Holy Spirit to dwell in each and every believer.
God also promises that this salvation, this Spirit, this joy, can never be taken away from us.
in john 10:29, Jesus quotes this passage from isaiah in saying, “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand”.
God alone is our savior. not money, popularity, security, or any other thing that we feel can bring us happiness and comfort.
His salvation is far greater because it can never be taken away. No one can ever undo what the Lord has done or wills to be done. He alone is our savior and He alone has the power to change things. leaders and empires rise, fall, rise and fall again, but His reign is certain, eternal, and will far outlast anything we can think or imagine in this world.
His work cannot be turned back, and although satan will fiercely attack humanity, with special focus on those who rest in God’s hand, he will never, ever be allowed a victory. the outcome is determined, the battle has already been won, and those of us who are in Christ are forever and eternally His.
